Last Friday the Fearless Four commenced on a 20 km journey through the hills of Northumberland. This is part of the training componet for the 100 km challenge in June. We left Bodilogix at 7:30 AM, The Sarge, Doris Biron, Deanne Demattos and me in tow. The weather was fantastic for this type of torment, sunny and cool. The Sarge set the pace, holy sh&t! There must have been an emergency somewhere because we were flying out of the blocks! I couldn't believe the pace she was setting; I was almost at a trot to keep up! I was thinking to myself, there is no way I'm going to be able to keep this pace up, I better start looking for a taxi. She never let up, just go, go, go! My knees were sore, my back was aching and I had sweat pouring down my forehead. My breathing was rapid and I thought i felt some chest pains...we weren't even out of the parking lot yet! Only 19.99 km's to go; it's going to be a piece of cake, i mean carrot.
The Sarge did have quite the pace going at the beginning...she slowed down once we reached Dale Road and she had to blow her nose, that took a 1/2 an hour. We continued on our walk through the country roads. Doris was in her own little world, singing with blue birds flying around her head...mother nature. Deanne, the youngest in the group was just walking along wondering what the fuss was about, just taking it easy. The Sarge after setting the quick pace was now doing her boogaloo dance while walking...she was wondering why nobody was waving at us. People along the route were locking their children up in the house to protect them from the horror.
Around km number 7 I took the lead and kept it for the rest of the walk. I was feeling really good about myself! Here I am leading the way for these super fit women...I'm a star. My ego was greatly deflated though once I realized I was being used as wind break! Back to therapy.
After four hours of slogging we finally completed the 20 km walk. My wife Rosie greeted us with hot tea and a ride back into to town. I was sore for the rest of the day.
The next hike will be 25 km's long...can't wait.
On Saturday I attended boot camp...I was still sore from the previous day but I thought it was important to keep moving. I better have a good result this week!
Very glad to see some new people have signed up on my blog! Hey Sandra! Sandra now lives down in the States, maybe she can get me on Opray?!
