New Years Eve:

"Youth is when you're allowed to stay up late on New Years. Middle age is when you're forced to." Bill Vaughn

As stated in my earlier blog, I didn't weigh-in this morning. I wanted to enjoy the season without feeling guilty so I'm holding off until January 07, 2010. Hopefully the sins of the last few days will have worn off by then. Talking about worn off, here is the loss in inches over the last 6 months;

Neck: 2.75 inches

Chest: 7 inches

Waist: 9 inches

Seat: 11.5 inches

For a grand total of 30.25 inches! Not bad I think.

My 2010 Goals:

1) 100 pounds by July 01st...of course.

2) 100 km hike on June 18 and 19th

3) Pass the Police Fitness Test

4) run the in the Picton half marathon, October 03, 2010.

5) To lose an additional 50 pounds between July and the end of the year, bringing the grand total to 150 pounds. That will get me below the 200 mark...actually 186 pounds.

News flash! Take some advice from a guy who has been there and is still tackling the weight issue...1) Start today because tomorrow never happens.

2) Consult with your doctor.

3) Invest in a good trainer, at least at the beginning. Learn the do's and don'ts!

4) Start slowly, but start!

5) You'll be sore at the beginning, but as my nephew Bryan put it "pain is temporary, pride is forever"

6) Invest in good shoes, make sure they fit properly.

7) Find a good gym...it comes with a built-in support system!

8) Get rid of the unhealthy food in your house...your family will understand.

9) Set some goals, but try and make them realistic.

10) Eat fruits, veggies, chicken, fish, some red meat! Don't eat anything deep fried. The only food that actually keeps the same nutritional value when deep fried is a Mars Bar! That's according to my daughter Carlie-Ann.

11) Do not try the Dean Martin diet...he went on a whiskey diet...in one week he lost four days!

"For last years words belong to last year's language and not next year's word's await another voice. And to make an end is to make a beginning." T.S. Eliot

I wish for everyone to have a happy, healthy and peaceful New Year!

Big Dave
