Hello folks...I missed a whole week of blogs last week but it couldn't be helped. I know this blog was set up for me to talk about my weight loss challenge and to raise money for the hospital but I'm going to make an exception today...I'm sure the committee won't mind.

This blog is dedicated to my niece, Jenilee McEwen, who was involved in a terrible car accident a week ago last Sunday. Jen and her boy friend Chad were near Lindsay on their way to visit Chad's brother. I don't know the cause of the accident and at this point I don't really care, but they were t-boned at an intersection. Jen was the passenger and took the brunt of the impact. She needed to be air lifted to Sunny Brook Hospital in Toronto and had emergency surgery; severe head trauma. The surgery was required to save her life. Even after the surgery was complete the doctors said it was now up to Jen to fight for her life and they were there to support that fight...but that's all they could do. The first 24 to 48 hours were going to be crucial...we're now 192 hours later!! Jen's a fighter! This has been a nightmare for the whole family but of course more to her parents, Scott and sandy and to her brother Ian. Very proud on how they have conducted themselves in this time of crisis...some people run and hide but they held firm and have been there for Jen and i know she feels their presence! Jen is breathing on her own now but is still in a coma. We won't know the results of any brain functions for awhile but knowing Jen's fighting attitude, beautiful spirit and love of life...she'll pull through better than ever!!

Who is Jen you might ask? She's a beautiful young woman with only 22 years under her belt. She is a Registered Practical Nurse. She was born and raised in Cobourg, was involved in Highland Dancing, loves to laugh....and argue, I mean debate, with her parents, sibling, Chad, Aunts, cousins and believe it or not Uncles!! I can understand the others, but moi?! It is this sense of sticking up for herself and saying what she means that will now help her fight this battle of battles in her young life. She's a true Scottish (ancestry) beauty inclusive of freckles. She hates her freckles but those are just beauty spots Jen.
It is during these moments when we are tested and in turn truly define our character. I've always said life isn't a dress rehearsal and shouldn't be taken in baby steps...Carpus Diem! Hug your children and tell them you love them!
Please say a prayer for Jen and her family....
Love you Jen!
Uncle Dave out!

  2. Wow Dave I sit here in tears as I read your loving account of our family in this crisis. It is through the power of prayer and love of her family (yes! you too, haha) that helps us stay strong. Your loving encouragement and happiness when I tell you anything about her good or bad you have provided us with the stregnth and I shall never forget the gentle way in which you had to tell us of this terrible news. Not easy for an uncle, brother-in-law and friend. We admire your strength with Rosie and helping her. We love you so much. This dedication means so much to our family and will to Jen when we can read this together!
She is sticking out her tongue on command I was wondering if her nurse was whispering her Uncles name. hehe. Seriously I am so glad you two got to have a good heart to heart and cuddle on Easter, that's a memory I won't soon forget.
    She sure loves you!
WE ALL LOVE YOU SO MUCH!
Now get to work...and go exercise...haha.
